Massimiliano Allegri and Napoli are now very close to saying yes to each other. Aurelio De Laurentiis has chosen the coach who will lead the Blues next season and, barring any sensational surprises, it will be the former Juventus and Milan coach.
De Laurentiis had previously met with Allegri before, but the deal seems a long way off. The Livorno coach must first finalise his contract with Milan, most likely at a board meeting scheduled for today, before he can sign with Napoli.
Max's contract with Napoli
The agreement foresees a two-year contract with an option for a third season. The official signature has not yet arrived, but should be put on paper at the beginning of next week. Allegri's lawyers are working on the last bureaucratic details to finally close the relationship with Milan.
Until this morning, the favorite seemed to be Vincenzo Italiano, but De Laurentiis seems to have finally put his doubts to rest around lunchtime, communicating his decision to coach Allegri while the Livorno native was in Pescara for the Galeone Prize. It was there that Max got emotional, remembering his historical master Giovanni Galeone.
Giovanni Manna, Napoli manager and long-time Allegri admirer, appears to have played a key role in the negotiations. Now all that's missing is the final formal step before the official announcement.
Napoli against fans: 25 thousand comments against
Meanwhile, however, the Neapolitan environment remains cold. Protests have erupted on Napoli's social networks against the arrival of the former red and black coach: according to reports, over 25 thousand comments have been published against the choice of technician Allegri. Amidst the irony, criticism and skepticism, there have been very few messages in favor of the Tuscan coach.
