The vote in the Assembly on the Xhaçka case, the EU delegation in Tirana

The EU delegation in Tirana has reacted to the media regarding the voting in the Assembly of the mandate of Olta Xhaçka.

In its response, the EU delegation expresses concern about the rule of law in Albania and the decisions of the Constitutional Court that have not been implemented by the Parliament.

We have also expressed our concerns in the last report on the Rule of Law in Albania, regarding the fact that some decisions of the Constitutional Court have not been implemented by the Parliament, including in relation to this issue, where the decision of the Constitutional Court dates back more than a a year and a half ago (January 2023).

We were encouraged by the fact that the Speaker of the Parliament, during the opening of the parliamentary session last week, emphasized as a priority the need for the Assembly to follow the remaining decisions of the Constitutional Court.
What happened yesterday is not a step in the right direction.

The implementation of the decisions of the Constitutional Court by the Parliament is an essential issue as it is related to the institutional checks and balances in the country's democratic system.
