The worthless votes more than the winning ones in 3 municipalities, will PS

In at least three municipalities, invalid votes are more than the margin of votes between the candidates who won in the May 14 local elections.

Among them, is the Municipality of Himara, where 197 invalid votes result from the counting of the total votes of the candidates.

Fredi Beleri won the municipality over the socialist candidate Jorgo Goro by only 19 votes. The other case is the Rrogozhin Municipality, where the socialist candidate Edison Memolla won over Shkëlqim Hoxha of the coalition "Bashke Fitomje" by 30 more votes.

The number of invalid votes for this municipality is 276. The third municipality is that of Belshit, where the socialist Arif Tafani defeated the opposition candidate Bedri Qypi by 40 more votes. While there were 220 invalid ballots.

Based on the Electoral Code, article 161, parties are given the right to appeal the decision by requesting a repeat election if the number of invalid votes affects the result.

"After the end of the appeal process, no later than 3 days from the release of the results of the electoral zone, the CEC mainly or at the request of the subject, declares them invalid and orders the repetition of the elections in the entire electoral zone, when the declared invalidity in one or several polling stations, according to Article 160 of this Code, affects the allocation of mandates in the electoral area or at the national level", this article states.

The Himara elections on May 14 turned into the hot potato of Albanian politics, due to the fact that the opposition candidate, supported by the Greek minority party, PBDNJ, Fredi Beleri was arrested for buying and selling votes.

Leaving him in prison increased the tensions between Athens and official Tirana. The Socialist Party has in hand to request the repetition of the elections for Himara, but this is expected to be seen when the CEC certifies the result for this municipality.

Chief Socialist Edi Rama, declaring that no one can pressure him from outside, will maintain a position on the accusations and attacks launched by the Greek Prime Minister and the politicians of the neighboring country after the May 21 parliamentary elections in Greece.
