"The Green Path", an event that has become a tradition now, returns with its sixth edition. Under the auspices of the Municipality of Tirana, over 100 amateur and professional cyclists, passionate about nature and sports, as well as groups of young volunteers, became part of the cycling route.

The Mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, said that today the number of those using bicycles has increased tenfold, thus reducing the traffic in the capital.

"The fact that every year there are more people who give to the bicycle and we promote Tirana more, I believe that this community is one of the strongest communities, which has survived the time when there were no bicycle lanes, when the bicycle was called something peripheral, where the cyclist was 'bullied' by the big cars. Today we are in a completely different situation: only the fact that the number of those using bicycles has increased tenfold, which has reduced traffic, that the lanes are protected, not only to make a line on the road, but to make sure that a girl, a lady, feel safe with the infrastructure. This means that we have done something good", said Veliaj.

The mayor promised that the Municipality of Tirana will do even more work to add as many bicycle lanes as possible.

"I know that during the campaign, democracy has these things, we agree to disagree, but there is no chance that Tirana will remove the bicycle lanes because we cannot say at the same time verbally: we also love Albania as abroad state, we also want the western one, but we also don't want bicycle lanes. I believe that the bicycle, the bicycle lanes, the democracy of the street, is probably the first western thing that catches the eye in Tirana. We will do more. This competition is a way to promote some areas that are not in the center of Tirana, but that are in great need of this kind of solidarity. Today, patriotism is not taking a pistol and a rifle and going to the mountains; today, patriotism is to promote Baldushku, to leave some finances there, because with them some books are paid for or a bicycle is bought", said Veliaj.

In Tirana, markings of 50 green paths on the map have been completed, which lead to tourist spots such as Krrabë, Zallherr, Baldushk, Petrelë, Vaqarr Kashar, etc., and thus the alternative possibility of touristic and sports movement is created.
