Myslim Murrizi's ultimatum: The entourage around Berisha must be dismantled

Former Democratic Party MP, Myslim Murrizi, has articulated a strong critical stance towards the electoral system and the way the opposition functions in Albania.

He categorically opposes coalitions, describing them as mechanisms that have weakened and "absorbed" the Democratic Party since 2001.

According to Murriz, Democrats' votes have often ended up in favor of political opponents, due to internal bargaining and agreements.

"Who should we be in coalition with? With Shpëtim Idrizi and Mesila Doda? Who have received three mandates from the DP but are pooling their votes with Rama. With whom? With the LSI, which has no connection to the center-right. With Tik Lapaj? I am categorically against it," said Murrizi.

One of the main accusations is related to the constitutional changes of April 2008, implemented by Sali Berisha and Edi Rama, which according to him produced a system that undermines the sovereignty of the vote. Murrizi emphasizes that with a system like the one in Kosovo, Rama would not be in power today.

"Albania needs an electoral zone. I have opened the lists that closed the electoral code and to their shame they closed 1/3, saying that it is the decision of the Constitutional Court that there was no comma from the decision of the Constitutional Court to close 1/3. If Albania will have the electoral system of Kosovo, Rama is not in power," he added.

Regarding the protests, Murrizi says he will be at every rally against the government, but underlines that the overthrow of the government is done through votes, not just through protests.

He calls for a change in the electoral system, but also an internal reorganization of the opposition, emphasizing that the entourage around Berisha must change to give new life to the Democratic Party.

"We need a different approach to citizens and not people that no one loves and no one voted for. The entourage surrounding Berisha should have been removed an hour ago," he said.
