Prime Minister Edi Rama, while attending the presentation of the Socialist Party's parliamentary candidates on May 11, focused on the importance of Albania's membership in the European Union.
Rama stated that the European Union is not simply a matter of guaranteed freedoms and rights, but is about the country's relationship with itself and others. He stated that joining the European Union ensures the status of European citizen.
According to the head of government, if Albania joins the EU, a student who decides to pursue academic studies in the countries of this union will not feel like a foreigner, but equal to everyone else.
The leading socialist also said that Albanians have freedom of movement, but not freedom of residence, which, according to him, can only be achieved with our membership in the EU.
He also added that today the Socialist Party is at the right moment and time, just like the Democratic Party in March 1992, when it was massively voted to end 50 years of communism.
"In 1992, not everyone was with the DP, but they voted massively because they wanted to close that page. But in March '92, Albanians did the right thing with history and voted massively. Today, we all have the right to seek a vote beyond the natural and traditional supporters of the SP. Therefore, we should aim not for 800 thousand votes, but for 1 million, including immigrants," said Rama.
He did not leave out his political opponents, either, emphasizing that "they are always behind and follow us with screams and growls."
According to Rama, the opposition reached its maximum number of votes in 2021 and, according to him, they will never be able to achieve that result. On the other hand, he emphasized that the Socialist Party has not yet reached its maximum.
"It's not even worth discussing them... They are not in front of us, they are behind us. They are chasing us with screams and growls, and now stopping, turning around and talking to them is pointless. I am convinced that they reached the maximum possible in 2021 and they will never achieve that result if they remain in that swamp. We have not yet reached our maximum and it is there, on the field, to be achieved. We will move forward with more strength to increase it ," Rama said in Durrës.
Rama had one piece of advice for the candidates of the Socialist Party of Durrës, so that they can gather as many young people as possible to vote for this political force, as it once again emphasizes the importance of EU membership.
He stated that the Socialist Party is in the right place and time for negotiations with the EU.
"Albania will enter the EU as a result of the vote on May 11 for the Socialist Party," Rama concluded his speech in Durrës.
