Albania is expected to close the first three chapters of its accession negotiations with the European Union today, during the ninth Albania-EU Intergovernmental Conference to be held in Brussels.

The Albanian delegation, led by Prime Minister Edi Rama, will formalize the closure of Chapter 25 (Science and Research), Chapter 26 (Education and Culture) and Chapter 30 (Foreign Relations), areas where Albania is considered harmonized with EU standards.

The conference will start at 19:00, while an hour later a press conference will be held on the progress of the integration process.

The closure of these chapters comes after the fulfillment of interim milestones (IBAR), a key stage in negotiations with the European Union.

After this step, Albania must meet the conditions for closing 30 other chapters, with the aim of completing the technical negotiation process by 2027. The decision on full membership will remain political and will require the approval of all 27 member states of the European Union.
