The former head of the municipality of Pristina, Shpend Ahmeti, commented on the show "Debate" on A2CNN, the complicated relationship between Prime Ministers Edi Rama and Albin Kurti, within the Balkan tour of the head of the Albanian government.

Ahmeti referred to a 'list' of crises that have marked the conflictual relationship between Albin Kurti and Edi Rama, also referring to three historical moments in the deterioration of the Kosovo-Albania relationship that Speaker Glauk Konjufca mentioned today.

Explaining that Konjufca referred to earlier cases, Ahmeti revealed that the biggest rift between Kurti and Rama was in 2013, when the Socialist Party signed the coalition with Ilir Meta's Socialist Movement for Integration.

Ahmeti said that he himself, at that time as one of the most vocal figures of Vetëvendosje, and Kurti refused to accept Rama in a meeting, as they were against Ilir Meta.

"When I was in Vetëvendosje, we did not accept Rama in the meeting. This was at the time when he entered the coalition with Ilir Meta and we were very much against Ilir Meta. Fortunately for this coalition cooperation, we interrupted the meeting and did not accept Mr. Rama in the meeting. But then there were no consequences because we were a party, we were a movement and we were not in the government where these cooling-warming relations. There are many highs and lows. It is the nature of these two politicians. He (Kurti) raises the issue at the national level, Rama starts with those jokes. He has discussions with other politicians and says, look at Albin, you're not the only one. Now Rama is becoming more international than it should be in this situation", said Ahmeti.

Relationship with Kurt, love-hate

As a former member of Vetëvendosje, Ahmeti underlined that he knows the Rama-Kurti relationship well. He said that the Rama-Kurti relationship has had its ups and downs, but it has always been preserved by the respect and fear that the two protagonists have for each other.

"I have followed this Rama-Kurti relationship for almost 10 years. It's strange. With jokes, sometimes good meetings, sometimes bad. Love, hate somehow that comes from respect and fear at the same time. It is two-way, as long as Rama has what it takes to subject everyone to discussions. These sometimes also emerge from the frameworks of their non-public discussions. This time Rama is feeling more comfortable, so he starts with these statements, not the canon, not the prayer. But we have to get away from these daily jokes. These accusations that Rama and Kurti are making for protagonism is like telling a politician why he breathes ", he said.

Furthermore, Ahmeti showed that currently it is Edi Rama who speaks from a more comfortable position than Kurti, as he has left the frame of the local politician and is seen as a representative of NATO in the Balkans.

According to him, it is a sin that the two prime ministers are dealing with personal quarrels and focus the debate in Kosovo and Albania on their tense relationship, at a time when the energies of both should be channeled together in the direction of solving the problem with the 4 municipalities in the North.

"Rama sees himself above Albanian politics, almost as a representative of NATO for the Balkans. He sees himself as part of the alliance at the first table. The situation is extraordinary and Rama is trying to present itself to the international municipality that we have a problem in our yard. I have more room to talk with Kosovo than they are Albanians. I am also friends with Vucic and I am trying to be almost like a firefighter in the Balkans. Kurti is not the modus operandi of cooperation. He asks for the help of the opposition, on the other hand, he makes a video where he calls them traitors and corrupt despite the fact that they are new leaders like LDK and PDK. I think this causes tremendous problems in foreign policy. In your country, we answer either as Albania or as Kosovo, or together with all that is happening to us,Ahmeti emphasized.
