The political leader of the SP for the Korça region, Niko Peleshi, has admitted for the first time from Erseka that with the calculations of Census 23 that show a decrease in the number of the population in Korça and an increase in the population in Tirana, the southeastern region risks losing a mandate in the parliamentary elections. of 2025 and this mandate may pass to the capital.

From the 11 mandates that the Korça district has had until the 2021 elections, the number of legislators it can elect will be 10. Even if this happens, the Socialist Party, according to Pelesh, will seek to win 6 mandates again in 2025.

"There is a possibility that due to the increase in the number of the population in Tirana, the district of Korça may have one mandate less, even though Korça had the lowest number of population departures according to the Census. Our goal will be the same, we want to maintain 6 mandates with two deputies difference from PD, but considering the new potential offered to politics with this new electoral code, which is the vote of the diaspora, the objectives can be increased, because we have as many voters in the diaspora as in Albania. One of the meeting points in each municipality is the organization of the diaspora vote. If there are 10 deputies, there will be 3 closed mandates, if there are 11 deputies, there will be 4 closed mandates ," said Peleshi.

Regarding the processes of the mandates of the former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Olta Xhaçka and MP Vullnet Sinaj, Peleshi said:

"The decision of the court for deputy Xhaçka has been voted in the session, the mandate of deputy Sinaj has entered the process, it will take its time, it is being reviewed. The process will continue until there is a decision of the council of mandates".
