The European Parliament has approved an amendment, which seeks to resolve the issue of the use of the Albanian language in state exams in North Macedonia, including the Jurisprudence exam.

In the adopted text, MEPs call on state institutions to address this problem as soon as possible, guaranteeing the practical implementation of the Ohrid Framework Agreement, not only in legal terms, but also in its spirit.

The approved amendment emphasizes that respecting the linguistic rights of Albanians remains a key element for advancing equality and interethnic coexistence in the country.

For this reason, the European Parliament calls on the authorities in Skopje to take concrete steps to ensure that Albanian students have equal opportunities in educational and professional processes.

MEPs also objected to the way the Albanian student protests were presented, demanding that they not be labeled as politically motivated or a destabilizing factor. According to them, the students' demands are related to the respect of rights guaranteed by law and the Ohrid Agreement, and therefore they should be treated with seriousness and institutional responsibility.

This development comes after meetings that representatives of the protesting students held in recent days with representatives of the European Parliament. During these meetings, the students expressed their concerns regarding the non-permission to conduct the Jurisprudence exam in the Albanian language, considering this a violation of their constitutional and legal rights.

The students have demanded equal treatment and full respect for linguistic rights, emphasizing that the use of the Albanian language in state exams is a right guaranteed by the legislation in force. The support expressed by the European Parliament is seen as a strong political and institutional signal to the authorities of North Macedonia to find a swift and fair solution to this issue.

The European Parliament's decision is considered an important step in protecting the rights of Albanians in North Macedonia and a clear message that the full implementation of the Ohrid Agreement remains one of the main priorities in the country's European integration process.
