The Albanian Parliament held a minute of silence in honor of Eliot Engel , the former American congressman who passed away a few days ago at the age of 79.

The Speaker of the Parliament, Niko Peleshi, described him as a great friend of Albanians and a steadfast supporter of the Albanian national cause.

"Eliot Engel was a great friend of the Albanians and a steadfast supporter of our national cause. His contribution to strengthening Albanian-American relations will remain unforgettable ," he said.

Eliot Engel was one of the Democratic Party's longest-serving figures in the US Congress, representing the state of New York for more than three decades.

During this time, he became extensively involved in foreign policy issues, reaching the peak of his career as chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee.

He was known as one of the most vocal supporters of the Albanian cause in the United States, especially for his commitment to supporting Kosovo during and after the war.
