The Prime Minister of the Netherlands, Mark Rutte, warns that he will leave politics forever, after the fall of the government due to policies towards immigrants.
"I have done well and honestly I think the time is right (to resign)," Rutte said on Monday, adding that he was leaving "with a lot of emotions and with a lot of mixed feelings."
Rutte, who has ruled since 2010 and is Europe's second-longest-serving leader, said he would tender his resignation to the Dutch king, triggering early elections.
Rutte is considered a close friend of Prime Minister Edi Rama, with whom they have met and discussed several times about the future of the Western Balkans, and recently they published an article as co-authors in the European newspaper "Politico".
Just a year ago, during the visit to Tirana, Rama named Rutten as one of the most experienced leaders for the Western Balkans.
"Not that I have him by my side, but if you look at the region at the moment, the most experienced leader who has good relations with everyone is this man whose birthday is today", Rama said at the time.
