The relationship between Albania and Greece was the topic of the show "On the radio", which was broadcast today on Radio Tirana 1. The journalist's guest Andri Xhahu, professor of state theory and legal theory at the Department of Political Science and History at the Pantheon University of Athens , Prof. Dr. Dimitris Christopoulos, says that everything inherited from the past, which has influenced the relations between the two countries, must be overcome.
"It is an expression that says one hand washes the other and both wash the face. It's not just the threat of Mitotakis in this story. When the Albanian prime minister comes out and accuses a candidate saying that I will deal with him personally and he is arrested, this has nothing to do with the rule of law. Mitsotakis' reaction was over the top. It enters a spiral that you have to stop at some point ", he said.
Among other things, Chrisopoulos said that Greece should stop playing "hard with the Albanians.
"I understand how Greece's arrogance has often wounded the Albanian people in the past. I also know how wounded the Albanian people were by the way the Greek police behaved with Albanian immigrants in the 90s" , the professor emphasized.
According to him, what happened in the past cannot be the reason for reproducing images that are not related to today's reality.
"Greece should reduce its arrogance in relation to the rest of the Balkans. He did this with Prespa and I hope that the Albanian-Greek issues will be resolved with a framework agreement, a part of which will be entirely according to international law. Similarly, the solution of the collective image from the past, and on the other hand, we must work with education in order to change the image we have of each other", said Christopoulos .
Asked how the image of Albanians in Greece has changed during these 30 years, Dimitris Christopoulos says that the perception of them is very good.
"It has nothing to do with the perception that was 30 years ago. The first is the class growth of Albanians in Greece. Second, Greece after the 90s had a lot of immigrants. Albanians, compared to other immigrant communities, were closer to Greeks. And thirdly, since 2015 we have a large number of immigrants from the Middle East and Arabia, so the Greeks say that we are the same as the Albanians. Even the Albanians have changed. When I had the first students from Albania in 2004, I saw children who had calluses on their hands because they worked. Now they are indistinguishable from the rest of the students, only when I have exams do I see the names of who are Albanians and Greeks" , declared Christopoulos.
