The Chairman of the DP Parliamentary Group, Gazment Bardhi, during the parliamentary session, commented on the issue of the end of Holta Zaçaj's mandate as President of the Constitutional Court.

Bardhi has requested that Zaçaj be summoned to a plenary session or to the Laws Committee, and to declare "who is pressuring her," referring to her statement at the meeting with judges where she declared the end of her mandate.

Zaçaj said that her 9-year mandate ends, as provided for by the Constitution, in 2025. She also stated that the Constitutional Court should not be influenced by political and media pressures.

"The President of the Constitutional Court has stated that there is political and economic pressure on the members of the court. I am concerned about this issue, it raises questions about the existence of two high institutions, therefore we should not stay out of this debate."

We must have an urgent hearing of the President of the Constitutional Court and the President of the Supreme Court. We, as the Assembly, should not remain outside this debate, which is putting the Constitutional Court of Albania in a costly impasse.

It could put Albania on a path where we have some members of the Constitutional Court, some who hold office by force, and some who are elected by the nominating bodies, bringing consequences for the state.

"This could create problems for us at the European Court of Human Rights," said Bardhi.
