The head of the Democratic Party's parliamentary group, Gazment Bardhi, has reacted sharply after the recent decision of the Constitutional Court regarding the case of Belinda Balluku, which reinstated her. Bardhi described the decision as a political and not a legal act.
In a post on 'FB', Bardhi said that the decision is not a surprise and, according to him, comes as a result of the pressure exerted by Prime Minister Edi Rama on the Constitutional Court. He stressed that the opposition had warned about this development for days.
According to Bardhi, the majority of the members of the Constitutional Court have not provided any substantial arguments for their decision, which, in his assessment, shows that it has no connection with the Constitution or the law, but is a political maneuver to obstruct justice and protect the Prime Minister and his associates.
REACTION
Time can be bought. Accountability cannot!
No surprise from yesterday's decision of the Constitutional Court regarding the defendant Belinda Balluku. It is not the first time that the Constitutional Court has succumbed to the Prime Minister's mafia pressure. The opposition had warned about this happening for days.
Even the 5 members in the majority did very well not to even bother to write two sentences to argue their decision, because after all, that decision has nothing to do with them, with the Constitution and with the law. It is only a political act by Edi Rama to obstruct justice and to protect himself and his collaborator, and for this reason there is no need to justify it with legal fabrications.
However, whoever rejoices today will be more sad tomorrow! And, better than anyone, Edi Rama knows this – the Prime Minister hostage to the only defendant in the history of the European Union who neither resigns nor allows himself to be dismissed.
Fortunately, yesterday's decision is only a temporary act, giving Edi Rama some time to defend his corrupt dealings and wipe away crocodile tears in front of Belinda.
The decision does not extinguish responsibility, does not close the case, does not return the 50 million euros stolen, and does not guarantee long-term protection. Neither for Edi Rama, nor for Belinda Balluku. Major corrupt acts are not neutralized by procedural maneuvers nor by temporary decisions taken under unprecedented pressure on the Constitutional Court.
The end of this story will not be the triumph of impunity and corruption. It will be the triumph of truth, justice, and the public interest. Because time can be bought, but accountability cannot!
