The opposition member of the Municipal Council in Vlora, Gjergji Nika, has appealed to the Central Election Commission (CEC) against the decision of the Central Election Commission (CEC) not to register him as a candidate in the November 9 elections. Through a letter addressed to the CEC, Nika requests the annulment of the CEC decision and his registration as an independent candidate.
Meanwhile, in today's meeting, the CEC rejected Nika's candidacy, arguing that it should have been proposed by an Initiative Committee and should have respected the procedure. According to the CEC, from the review of the submitted documentation, it results that the registration of the Initiative Committee, which would prepare the work for the registration of a candidate for mayor of Vlora, is missing.
However, the Complaints and Sanctions Commission (KAS) will hold a public session today, at 7:00 PM, to review the complaint filed by Gjergj Nika, who has not yet registered as a candidate for mayor of Vlora.
Nika broke away from the Democratic Party a few days ago, declaring himself an independent candidate. According to the advisor, the Democratic Party needs to be "liberated" from grotesque individuals, as he calls them, and that the opposition can no longer mock the Democrats.
