The first to open the opposition protest was Floriana Garo, a member of the Democratic Party Presidency. She emphasized that "today the Democrats are more united than ever."
"Courageous citizens, true democrats and patriots. We are together in this square because theft and betrayal of the nation are no longer accepted. Here we are as we promised! Stronger and united! We are here to show God Albania, the time for great change has come. The time for victory!", said Garo from the podium.
Immediately after her, the leader of the Republican Party, Fatmir Mediu, spoke, as a confirmation of the "joining forces" with the DP.
Mediu began his speech at the opposition protest in front of the prime minister's office with a greeting, which he said came from American friends in Congress and the Senate.
Mediu said that the US is Albania's friend who wants our country to be just and with free and fair elections.
He said that they are not for power, but for the state of Albanians.
"I bring you the best greetings from friends from the US in Congress and Senate, those who have supported Albania's membership in NATO. Friends who want a fair Albania with free elections.
We are not for the government, but for the state of Albanians. We are for those who sacrificed in the name of freedom. Today the government mocks with ridiculous pensions.
We are here on behalf of the intellectuals who have left the government. We are here on behalf of the future, which cannot be built without freedom of speech.
We are here in the name of what we have built and is being destroyed.
"We welcomed President Bush in this building. Alongside Prime Minister Berisha, he declared Albania's entry into NATO and the independence of Kosovo," Mediu said.
"The future cannot be built without freedom, to speak, to decide, to be all together a European nation. We are the ones who opened the way for change, to make Albania like the rest of Europe, the ones who brought the country into NATO. We have built in the interest of Albanians what is best, not for politics, but for the Albanian people. The current government seeks to destroy all of this! We must unite to tear down this filthy wall and take our destiny into our own hands. Albanians wherever they are have today more than ever the chance to work and change Albania! They cannot accept that the government is the God of their families. Keep your eyes forward as European and American citizens and wherever you are, fight to return Albania's European future. We must return the faith in God to Albanians! ", said Mediu.
