Former Prime Minister Sali Berisha has commented on Ilir Meta's request to be questioned about the January 21 file in a letter addressed to Special Prosecutor Alfred Shehu.
" What Ilir Meta knows, he may know that he was deputy prime minister," the former prime minister said.
Sali Berisha: First, it is universally known that Edi Rama, in order to organize January 21, manipulated and falsified a recording obtained from the late Dritan Prifti, according to which Ilir Meta was paid 700 thousand euros by a businessman who was demanding his rights.
Sali Berisha, prime minister, first, had listened to Drtian Prifti or was asked to appoint him to an important position or otherwise had a record. My word was 'get out as much as you can from my side'. Anyone who investigates this issue is clear that it was part of the scenario of violence on January 21, the scriptwriter himself turns out to be Edi Rama. What does Ilir Meta know, he may know that he was deputy prime minister.
But Ilir Meta, on January 14-15, before January 21, came to my office and told me that I would resign. He told me that I would not go to the prosecutor's office as deputy prime minister. Those were different standards, not like Ramaduro who runs to protect his own back. He said that he would go to the prosecutor's office as an ordinary citizen and I congratulated him.
As for responsibility, I have none, such a violent scenario is of course the first and unprecedented ever.
In a letter addressed to Special Prosecutor Alfred Shehu, Ilir Meta states that he has knowledge and can provide valid evidence about the circumstances of the incident.
"I am aware of and can provide valid evidence about the circumstances of that event, evidence that is not known to the proceeding body, which can serve to shed light on the incident," Meta writes in the letter.
