Thursday's plenary session in the Assembly was accompanied by strong debates between opposition MPs and government members, mainly during the interpellations held in the hall.
The situation became tense when Democratic MP Luciano Boçi took the floor and remained on the podium for several minutes, refusing to leave, despite the Guard's interventions and warnings from the Speaker of the Assembly, Niko Peleshi.
After these developments, Boçi was expelled from the plenary session.
Immediately after this incident, the opposition decided to leave the hall during the voting on the draft laws.
Meanwhile, in the absence of opposition MPs, the majority approved with 76 votes in favor and none against the draft law for the creation of the Education Agency.
Earlier, Education Minister Mirela Kumbaro rejected the opposition's claims regarding the draft law on the Educational Services Agency , stating that it has received the approval of the European Commission.
According to her, this institution has given its consent to the legal initiative.
Kumbaro also stated that the adoption of this law concludes the obligations for Chapter 26 of the negotiations with the European Union, dedicated to education, describing it as the first chapter to be closed within the framework of the integration process.
Meanwhile, the Assembly also approved with 77 votes in favor in its entirety the draft law "On some additions and amendments to law no. 33, dated 31.03.2021, 'On the Guard of the Republic of Albania', as amended".
With these legal changes, the majority aims to restore the previous formula for appointing the leaders of the Republican Guard, abandoning the competition process and providing for direct appointment by the Prime Minister, upon proposal by the Minister of Interior.
