The names of the ministers who will be part of the new government cabinet.

At the end of his speech, held at the Congress of the Socialist Party, Rama replaced three of the current ministers and proposed the new Speaker of the Assembly of Albania.

New government names – not political figures

Taulant Balla, appointed to the Ministry of the Interior only in July last year, will be replaced by Ervin Hoxha, who until now has held the position of director of the National Inspectorate for the Protection of the Territory, IKMT. Former minister Balla entrusted you with the position of Minister of State without portfolio for Relations with Parliament, a chair held by Elisa Spiropali.

Even the Minister of Finance Ervin Mete, who took the post in September last year, will be succeeded by Petrit Malaj, the current Director of the National Agency of Natural Resources. Another name was chosen to head the Ministry of Defense. After Niko Pelesh, who has held this position for about 4 years, this ministry was entrusted to Pirro Vengu, the Director of the Port of Durrës. Pelesi himself will take the chairmanship of the socialist parliamentary group.

The changes in the government cabinet come a year before the elections, which will be held in the spring of 2025. Prime Minister Rama did not provide any clarification on these changes, but during his speech in Congress he emphasized the importance of new figures for the upcoming elections. "You will need the knowledge, skills, and desire of the young people that we will definitely bring in for the great trials of the fourth term" - said the Prime Minister.

The Parliament of Albania will be headed by a woman again

Elisa Spiropali will lead the Assembly of Albania, replacing Lindita Nikolla, who announced her resignation from this post a few days ago. "My three-year service at the head of the Assembly is coming to an end, as a result of a personal health situation," announced the former Speaker of the Assembly. Spiropali's proposal for the management of this institution came from Prime Minister Edi Rama during Sunday's assembly, while it is expected to be voted on during Tuesday's (July 30) plenary session. Spiropali currently holds the position of Minister of State without portfolio, for Relations with the Parliament. The deputy speaker of the Assembly from among the socialists will be Bledi Çuçi, who until now has led the socialist parliamentary group.

Berisha on government changes: "There is only one unit"

Edi Rama's decision to change some of the images of the government cabinet brought the reaction of the Chairman of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha. From the balcony of his apartment, Berisha said that the congress sanctioned that in the Socialist Party "there is no other forum, no member of other forums, but there is only one".

"In this context, we can evaluate the congress as the political act of the metamorphosis of the Renaissance, the complete metamorphosis of the Renaissance," added Berisha. Unsparing in labels, he also spoke about the new appointments in the "Rama" government, as he said that they were appointed "thieves, interested parties, anti-people and any other epithet".

Immediately after the end of the Congress, Prime Minister Edi Rama submitted to the Presidency the decrees for the new changes, which await the approval of President Bajram Begaj./ DW
