While accusing Edi Rama of the May 11 electoral farce, Sali Berisha is ready to sit down with his political opponent if amending the Constitution to create the Senate is on the agenda.
The Kyredemocrat replied that he is ready, while adding that he has no complexes. He said that the Senate is useful and that many countries have it.
" The Senate is useful, many countries have it, others don't. If Albania decides to have a Senate, it should reduce the number of deputies. For the Municipalities, I say there should be more. We have set a condition that has been accepted.
Our condition is that the Electoral Reform Commission should include ODHIR. For territorial reform, experts from the Congress of Regional Authorities of Europe, at the Council of Europe, should be present. They have the best expertise in local government.
There is nothing to touch the constitution there, but if there is a problem with defining the Senate in the constitution, I am ready. We have no complexes there. We believe that it is a useful institution. Not by burdening the taxpayers' budget, but by reducing the number of deputies. Local reform does not need a Constitution. I assure you that it does not ," he said.
