Prime Minister Edi Rama

Prime Minister Edi Rama says that the European Union is preparing a large package for financial aid to the countries of the Western Balkans, within this framework today's meeting was organized in Tirana between the leaders of the region.

In a conference with journalists after the meeting, Rama said that only the member countries have benefited from the current financial aid, thus deepening the gap with the Balkan states.

"We are in an effort like Albania to promote a new way of seeing things, in relation to the Western Balkans, in terms of the gap that exists through the member countries, especially after the successive economic shocks, which have caused the EU to distribute very significant funds to the member countries, and this has widened the gap between us and the member countries", declared Rama.

Asked about the projects and the amount of money that the EU plans to give, Rama said that it is still too early to talk about such details.

"Taking into account this consequence and the general context, and all the challenges that are common today, we have also tried to help others to create another approach. Which means, in parallel with the negotiation process, to have extra financial support. This is something that is starting to take shape, and an EU economic support plan is being prepared. EU countries should be supported more financially, and how can some more paths be opened to the market without waiting for them to join the EU. We cannot talk about details because this plan is still under discussion. While we are too early to discuss how much and why one or another country will receive", said Rama.

Asked about the absence of Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti, Rama answered briefly.

"Everyone was invited, whoever wanted came, whoever could didn't", said the head of the Albanian government.
