The Chairman of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha , spoke today outside the Parliament premises to the media, where he revealed the reason why the DP withdrew the signatures for Endri Shabani's candidacy for the position of People's Advocate.

Berisha said that Shabani received votes from the opposition during the period when he supported independent candidate Florjan Binaj for mayor of Tirana.

But then, according to him, a series of problems emerged that proved that Endri Shabani was a person with complete ties to Edi Rama.

"I'm not saying that Endri Shabani didn't get the signatures. Endri Shabani got them during a period when he supported Florian Bina, because I can't say that it wasn't a complete moral coalition of all political forces. But then a series of problems emerged that proved that the one who had that vocabulary as an opposition member of the opposition, wasn't just that, but was a person with complete ties to Edi Rama. And this is not just our opinion, but it is a broader opinion of factors not connected to the opposition, but who were and are that the Ombudsman should be a trustworthy person, a person with high credentials and integrity," said the leader of the Democratic Party.

But then a series of problems emerged that proved that the person who had that vocabulary as an opposition member was not only that, but was a person with complete ties to Edi Rama.

And this is not just our opinion, but it is a broader opinion of factors not related to the opposition, but who were and are, that the Ombudsman should be a trustworthy person, a person with high credentials and integrity.

At the very least, Endri Shabani is the leader of a party, I'm not taking the other side.

But the Laws Committee decided that MPs will not have the right to sign for more than one candidate. In accordance with this decision, the DP parliamentary group sent a letter to the Assembly informing it that it withdraws every signature for every candidate.

And, this decision of the Laws Commission, surprisingly, was rejected by the majority without any decision. It made it non-existent without making any decision in any institution. Why did it do this? Because they were losing signatures for Endrin Shaban.

The candidacies supported by the DP, Mr. Besim Ndregjoni, Ms. Adriana Kalaja and 4 other candidacies, who met all the conditions for fulfilling with dignity that important task in the field of freedoms and human rights, especially in this country where the authoritarian dictatorship is increasingly consolidated.

With this act, they not only hijacked an institution that, from its inception until today, in the established tradition, belonged to the opposition, but the truth is that they also undone the most serious efforts that were made to establish some kind of cooperation on the most important issues of common interest, such as two or three reforms.

So what did they show with this? They showed that sitting at the table with them is completely fruitless.
