The leader of the Opportunity Party, Agron Shehaj, has reacted through a press statement regarding the recent debate on magistrates' salaries.
According to Shehaj, the lives of prosecutors and judges are in danger due to threats and the prime minister must stop the derogatory language.
Agron Shehaj's reaction:
I am here to strongly condemn Prime Minister Edi Rama's daily attacks on justice and SPAK. Prosecutors and judges are facing threats to their lives. Prosecutors and judges are having their lives put at risk.
Under these conditions, Edi Rama continues his denigration of them. We condemn his lynching, intimidating and threatening language towards justice, while the Constitutional Court has been meeting for weeks and is continuously postponing the historic decision regarding SPAK's request for the suspension of Deputy Prime Minister Balluku, who is accused of abusing state budget funds.
Edi Rama is seeking to hold the Constitutional Court hostage and consequently the decision that will once and for all separate the past of impunity from the future, where the corrupt are brought to justice.
The attacks are being carried out by Edi Rama himself, by analysts and journalists close to him, by ministers and members of the majority, and by organized crime. The continuous slander regarding the false accusation that the prosecution and the court arrest people without trial is an open and direct threat to the prosecutors' efforts to bring senior officials to justice.
Prosecutors face threats to their lives every day. Prosecutors' lives are being put at risk. Therefore, we call on: The Ambassadors of Western countries in Albania; The US Chargé d'Affaires, the Ambassador of the European Union Delegation to Albania, the German Ambassador, the British Ambassador, the Italian Ambassador, the Dutch Ambassador and every Western diplomatic representation in Albania , to continue to support justice and to call for an immediate end to attacks on justice, on prosecutors and on judges who are fighting corruption.
Albanians support justice. They want an end to impunity in Albania. The future of Albania depends on supporting the fight against corruption. I call on you not to remain silent. I also call on Albanian citizens to come out in defense of justice, in defense of the fight against corruption.
As you know, the Opportunity Party has started a campaign in defense of justice and the fight against corruption. To date, we have collected almost 50 thousand signatures.
Our goal is to collect 100,000 signatures and these will be delivered to the US Congress, the European Parliament and the parliaments of partner countries. I invite you to sign our declaration in defense of justice .
