48 hours was the deadline set by Elections Commissioner Ilirjan Celibashi for the Democratic Party for Lulzim Basha to sign as party leader the solemn declaration provided for in the Electoral Code to register for the elections, which expires today!
Taking into account the recent statements of the highest representatives of the Democratic Party, such as acting chairman Enkelejd Alibeaj or General Secretary Gazmend Bardhi, the largest opposition party in the country seriously endangers the registration for May 14, at least from Celibashi's side, and the issue may end to be resolved in the Complaints and Sanctions Commission at the CEC, if the Commissioner will stick to the statement of not passing it without filling out documents.
For the Democratic Party, Lulzim Basha has left and he is not coming back.
Yesterday's meeting of the DP Parliamentary Group lasted more than 150 minutes and at the end of it was Alibeaj who, in an appearance for the media, Alibeaj said that he would continue with the further procedures for the registration of the DP in the elections and that he would to submit the relevant clarification to the Central Election Commission, together with the complaint.
He emphasized that Basha has resigned and that all the documents submitted by the Democratic Party are in accordance with the legislation.
