This Thursday, the next hearing of the "Partizani" file was held at the GJKKO, where the defendants are the leader of the Democratic Party of Kosovo (DP) Sali Berisha and his son-in-law, Jamarbër Malltezi, who are accused of corruption.
The lawyers of the latter have requested that Prime Minister Edi Rama be called as a witness in this case, a request that has reportedly not been opposed by the Special Prosecution Office.
According to Berisha and Malltez's legal defense attorneys, Rama changed the destination of the Partizani sports club when he was mayor of Tirana, while they emphasize that the head of government was never asked about this issue.
SPAK prosecutors did not oppose the request, but left it up to the court whether Edi Rama will testify in the case where his main political rival is accused.
Prosecutors asked the GJKKO to dismiss the defendants' lawyers' request for invalidity of the evidence, which would essentially invalidate the trial.
"We request that these claims be disregarded and dismissed," prosecutors are reported to have said.
On April 15, the Special Court will make a decision on the requests of Berisha's and Malltez's lawyers.
