If you're browsing TikTok or Instagram, you may come across various videos from Chinese manufacturers claiming that many luxury brands manufacture their products in China.
This is an event that comes at a time when the US and China have increased import tariffs on each other.
BBC Verify's Jake Horton seeks to uncover the truth behind these claims. The question is: where are European luxury goods made?
According to Chinese manufacturers, “they take almost finished products from China and simply repackage and put on the logo.” The main claim is that expensive goods are mainly produced in Chinese factories.

Louis Vuitton states that its leather goods are produced exclusively in ateliers in Europe and the US. Gucci says that 95% of the company's production is in Italy.
Paul Roeland, an expert in the field, says:
"It's not as easy as these videos make it out to be. There are many things that are produced in China, even for luxury goods. We don't know exactly because the sector has shown resistance to showing transparency about the production chain. On the other hand, it's not true that in Europe you just stick a label on it."
According to EU rules, for something to be called 'Made in Europe' it must undergo the final essential change there.
Experts say that simply adding a logo or packaging in France or Italy, as claimed in the videos circulating, does not count. But there are no clear rules on the amount of product that must be produced in Europe to be called such.
Fashion journalist Dana Thomas says that “the industry is fragmented.” She explains how the process of producing a sweater can take place in different countries as the fabric can be sourced from one country, dyed in another, woven, sewn, and finished in other countries.
The Lululemon brand says that 3% of its finished goods are made in China, but emphasizes that it does not cooperate with the manufacturers in the video and calls for vigilance against "fake products or misinformation."
Ultimately, while the idea that fashion houses manufacture in China stands, these videos are not entirely true. These manufacturers may offer very similar products, but not the same quality.
