Renowned chef, Renato Mekolli, has returned to the public's attention through an official response, where he explains for the first time the reasons for his sudden departure from Albania and from the screens.

The former host of the "Hell's Kitchen" format, who had long distanced himself completely from public life and social networks, has decided to provide explanations after reopening his Facebook account, responding to the high interest of his followers.

In his statement, Mekolli reveals that the decision to leave was forced by threatening circumstances and not by desire.

He states literally: "I left to save myself. My life was threatened by segments of Albanian politics and other serious circumstances. I was denied the freedom of everything and, surprisingly, every denunciation of mine was disappeared by our Police without any justification," he writes.

Renato has shown his most fragile side, admitting that the pressure had led him to fatal thoughts of ending his life, but in the end he chose to fight.

STATEMENT TO THE MEDIA AND THE PUBLIC
– Renato Mekolli

Beyond Silence: A Renaissance
This statement comes immediately after the launch of my official Facebook page,

I thought long and hard about reopening Facebook (Instagram at a later date) and getting back into social media. To be honest, it wasn't easy at all. On the contrary, it was much quieter and more beautiful away from this huge noise that is created every day in the virtual world.

Today we live in a reality where many things are done just for show, where a large part of people live a fake life and where the virtual image often seems more important than real life. But despite this, I am a public figure and my work requires this communication. The reopening of my Facebook brought an extraordinary reaction – for the better, of course. Your messages came like a stream of questions that needed answers. The interest from the public, but also from the media, was great and immediate.

I feel it as an obligation to the people who have followed me all this time and as an obligation to the media. That's why I decided to respond with this public statement, which summarizes a little of everything. (But it ended up being quite long.)

I am NOT ready for a full interview yet – and for that I ask for the media's understanding.

Therefore, I decided to give this first answer to all of you, until a second moment, which will certainly come at the right time.

It wasn't easy to leave the lights and Albania, but it was necessary.

Thank you to all those who never forgot me and stood by me.

The first Renato burned to the ashes of his challenges. But from that ashes another was born — stronger, more aware, and more determined than ever. This is my second life. I found strength where there was no light left, where the breath became heavy and the mind sought escape. At that point, when everything told me to be silent and surrender — I chose to live.

I said YES to life at the most delicate moment, when the invisible threads between heart and mind risked being broken. Today I live with fire in my blood, with eyes that have seen hell, but have chosen the light. This is my victory: to listen to the voice of the soul and tell yourself: “Get up. You can.”

Man holds within him a sacred power: the mind — the divine wisdom that was given to us as a blessing from the day we were born, as a weapon and as a light. He who ignites this light is reborn. And I was reborn.

I thank you for giving me strength and energy. I have only one message for you: live deeply. Do good, and if you cannot, at least do no harm. Love the person next to you. Man is not to be pushed down; man is a value.

Do not judge, do not hit. Give your hand to another — perhaps it is the last chance before he gives up this life. When that fatal step is taken, tears and regrets will be too late. Let us give each other a hand in this universe where shared energy circulates.

"Why did I leave Albania?"

I didn't leave because I wanted to. It was never my desire to leave my country. It's a wound that still hurts — the trauma of every immigrant whose body is somewhere else but whose soul is in Albania.

No one wants to leave the place where they were born.
My heart remains there. In my small, beautiful, painful place. No one leaves their roots easily. No one dreams of being an immigrant — and this is the wound of every immigrant.

I left to save myself. My life was threatened by segments of Albanian politics and other difficult circumstances. I experienced modern slavery and learned what it means to live in a democracy that is worse than the communism that our parents or grandparents experienced. I was denied the freedom of everything and, surprisingly, every denunciation of mine was disappeared by our Police without any justification. My life was violated physically and psychologically.

I fought to the very end, to the point where my mind drifted to the darkest decision that could exist, to that fatal point in life that I don't even want to mention its name. But I couldn't stand it any longer. In the end, I chose life.

I am sure that Mother Albania would also tell me:
"My son, go away. You fulfilled your mission, you did the impossible to live here. But this country does not love people like you, it loves them far away. Go and make me proud wherever you are."

And I did this.

I had to resurrect Renato at all costs. I had to continue my mission and my dream. Now I am rewriting my story from scratch, the way it should be, not the way others wanted it.

Since I was 6 years old, cooking has been my divine calling. I was born to serve people through what I do best — through the art of cooking. You made me the “Chef of your hearts” and this victory cannot be bought, fabricated, imitated, manipulated, or replaced. This kind of victory cannot be bought in the marketplace; it is cooked with years of dedication and a lot of love.

Thank you for allowing me to be a part of you and your hearts. Thank you for allowing me to enter the homes of every Albanian in Kosovo, in Albania and everywhere in the world.

I would like to thank with all my heart, with humility and deep gratitude, my channel that I trust, Top Channel, for the trust it gave me, entrusting me with the most precious television time in Prime time with Hell's Kitchen Albania and MasterChef Albania.
These are two productions with global reach and resonance, the largest television formats in the world, which turned into extraordinary journeys of emotions, passion and professional dedication. Together we achieved unprecedented audience records for a cooking reality show and created moments that will remain long in the history of Albanian television.
It was a priceless experience, full of challenges, pride and great achievements. I thank from the bottom of my heart every person who contributed to this wonderful journey.

Deep gratitude to my loyal sponsor, ELKA, who stood by me with respect every step of the way.

I also want to thank the media, who gave me a voice, who respected my work and who I am, who put me on the pages of newspapers, on magazine covers, in heartfelt interviews, and who never spared their writings full of love and respect.

And what touched me the most: many of them knew what I was going through, but they didn't speak up. They didn't publicize. They didn't exploit my pain. They gave me peace and time. And they only let me speak when I was ready. That's true respect. And I hold them in my heart.

I'm one of those people who never asked for favors, never used fame to gain anything, and never kept people close to me just because they had power or money. I've always wanted to fight on my own, to achieve everything on my own, without anyone's help.

Nothing has been given to me in life. Every step, every achievement, and every success I have built with work, sacrifice, and personal effort, without having a family with money or friendships built on interests and dirty money behind me.

That is why I have the strength to raise my voice with pride, because my life and career are built on strong and unshakable foundations. No one dares to cast mud on my name, because I have always walked with dignity, honesty and a pure character.

The Chef – My Last Chance at Life
(Title not final)
By the end of 2026, my autobiography will be ready for the American market — a book that was not written to please. This is not an ordinary success story. It is a harsh, dark, and shocking chronicle.

I'm sorry that Albania will not emerge with a beautiful image, but this is my story and history is written as it is lived: a life built on pain, silence, and a patience violated beyond human limits.

From the shadows of my childhood in the last years of communism, to the scars of racism and the brutal reality of emigration to Greece; from the pinnacle of success in gastronomy, media and television, to the sacrifices that destroyed my body and soul.

From the isolation of quarantine in Albania and financial collapse, to my personal struggle with panic attacks, where I would take my breath away; and the psychological battle that led me to psychotherapists and a life coach, confronting the demons that denied me the right to live.

The road to the top was not easy — it was bloody.

It mercilessly strips away the facade of gastronomy and the illusion of gold dust of showbiz in Albania, revealing the truth behind the false glamour, discipline that leaves scars, loneliness and fear, an almost unbearable price for success.

This is a shocking, chilling tale, etched with scars, ruthless truths, and the devastating cost of chasing the top.

My story is not simply read, this story is a film and a documentary— it overwhelms. It shocks and touches deeply. But from the ruins, with wounds and silence, I found the strength to rise again, to challenge the end and choose life. Against every current, with faith and hope, I told myself: “YOU CAN.”

And today I am here, in Miami, under the lights of one of the most luxurious hotels in the world, with real lights and a brilliance that blinds you, at The Ritz-Carlton. I am here, in the place where you are appreciated for who you are and where you get what you truly deserve; here where the Chef is treated as an artist, as a superstar, and where dreams dare to come true if you work hard and with soul.

This is the end of my book, but the true beginning of my life. A fairytale ending — as befits any man who has touched the bottom but found the courage to rise again. This is my version of the American Dream: rebirth after the storm, light after darkness, and the great victory over pain. I never gave up. What about you?

With deep respect, I bow to all of you for the extraordinary love you have given me over the years.
Your support, trust, and appreciation have been my greatest strength and motivation to continue forward with passion and dedication.
I feel blessed.

For all of you who fell, got tired, and for a moment lost hope — don't give up.

Even from the deepest darkness, one can rise. Believe in yourself. Believe in life. I did it. You can too.

God bless you and your families!
Yours, Chef Renato Mekolli
