An international scandal related to sperm donation has involved 14 European countries, including our country.

A sperm donor, who unknowingly carried a dangerous, carcinogenic genetic mutation, has enabled the birth of at least 197 children in 14 European countries, including Albania.

According to the BBC, it is a mutation in the TP53 gene, linked to the rare Li-Fraumeni syndrome, a condition that increases the risk of developing serious forms of cancer during life by up to 90%, from childhood tumors to breast, brain, bone or leukemia cancer.

The donor from Denmark, who turns out to have this mutation in only about 20% of his sperm, has left many consequences for the children created from his sperm.

It is reported that some of the children have already been diagnosed with cancer, with some of them having died at a very young age.

According to an investigation, it was discovered that donor sperm was distributed to 67 fertility clinics in countries such as Denmark, Belgium, Spain, Germany, Greece, Poland, Ireland, North Macedonia, Serbia, Hungary, Georgia, Iceland, Cyprus and Albania.

While the most affected country is Belgium, where the donor's problematic sperm, 38 women, and brought 53 children to life.
