An unprecedented event shook the Miss Finland organization this week, as it made the drastic decision to immediately strip the title of the winner chosen for 2025, Sarah Dzafce. The 22-year-old of Albanian origin from Kosovo is now the first Miss in the history of the Finnish competition to officially lose her crown, an extreme step that has never been taken before in this form.

It all happened on December 1, after Finnish media outlet Ilta-Sanomat published an image of Sarah that was quickly circulating on Snapchat and Instagram. In the photo, she is seen pulling her eyes with her fingers to look “squinty,” a gesture known internationally as mocking Asian communities. The caption in Finnish, “Kiinalaisenkaa söyömäs” (“Eating with a Chinese/Chinese food”), was immediately deemed racist, causing a strong wave of public reactions.

The CEO of the pageant, Sunneva Sjögren, appeared at a press conference to announce the decision: after a detailed review, Dhafce loses her title as Miss Finland.

"This was a reasoned and difficult decision," Sjögren stated, emphasizing that discriminatory behavior is not tolerable for a figure representing the country on the international stage.

Sarah, who proudly expressed her "roots in the mountains of Kosovo" on social media, appeared shocked by the news.

"I didn't expect it. I found out this morning. The decision was made with mutual understanding," she told Finnish media.

The removal of the crown from the main winner is an event that has never happened before in this competition.
