Los Angeles wildfires: Death toll rises to 24 as flames escalate

The death toll from the Los Angeles wildfires has reached 24, with dozens still missing. Officials still don't have an accurate estimate of the total number of victims.

Sixteen of the dead were found in the Eaton fire area, while eight others were in the Palisades area. Currently, three fires continue to burn around Los Angeles. The largest fire is the Palisades fire, which has burned over 23,000 acres of land, only 13% of it is under control.

The Eaton fire is the second largest, burning more than 14,000 hectares. Meanwhile, the Hurst fire has grown by 799 hectares and is almost completely contained.

Firefighters continue their efforts to extinguish the fires, while authorities have issued new warnings. After a weekend of calm winds, strong and dangerous winds are expected to return this week, which could create "potentially catastrophic wind conditions" throughout the area of Los Angeles County that remains under threat from wildfires.
