The Israeli military has responded to Iranian threats that it would attack if the US and Israel interfered in the country's internal affairs by supporting anti-government protesters.
According to foreign media, the Israeli military says it is "prepared for defense" regarding developments in Iran, but insists that the protests are an "internal matter."
In a statement on social media, Brigadier General Effie Defrin's spokeswoman said:
"The IDF is prepared for defense and on standby for unexpected scenarios if necessary. The protests in Iran are an internal matter. We continue to conduct ongoing assessments of the situation and will provide updates on any changes should they occur."
Israel and Iran fought a 12-day war last summer, during which Israel attacked Tehran's nuclear infrastructure and nearly 1,200 Iranians and 30 Israelis were killed.
We also recall that earlier in the day, US President Donald Trump said that the US military could intervene in support of protesters in Iran.
