On the 34th anniversary of Ukraine's independence, US President Donald Trump sent a congratulatory message to the people and government of Ukraine, expressing his desire to end the war against Russia, which he calls a "senseless massacre."

In a letter shared on social media by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Trump praised the "unwavering spirit" of the Ukrainian people and their "fight for freedom," reaffirming the United States' support for the country's sovereignty.

Meanwhile, Zelensky thanked the US for standing side by side with Ukraine, adding that he believes that "by working together we can end this war and achieve real peace."

Full letter:

Dear Mr. President,

On behalf of the American people, I extend my warmest congratulations and best wishes to you and the brave people of Ukraine as you celebrate your 34th anniversary of independence.

The people of Ukraine have an unwavering spirit, and the courage of your country inspires the world. On this momentous day, I want you to know that the United States respects your resilience, honors your sacrifices, and believes in your future as a free and independent nation.

Now is the time to end the senseless killings. The United States supports a negotiated agreement that will bring about a lasting, lasting peace, that ends the bloodshed, and guarantees Ukraine's sovereignty and dignity.
