"Paper Tiger"/ Kremlin responds to Donald Trump's comments:

The Kremlin responded on Wednesday to US President Donald Trump's comment that described Russia as a "paper tiger", and said that Russian President Vladimir Putin appreciates his American counterpart's efforts to resolve the war in Ukraine.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Russia "is a bear, not a tiger."

"But there is no such thing as paper gold," he said, Reuters reports.

Trump said Tuesday that he believes Ukraine can take back all the territory seized by Russia and that Kiev must act now because Moscow is facing major economic problems. His comments marked a rhetorical reversal that has been widely criticized.

Peskov, responding to Trump in a radio interview, said that the Russian army is advancing in Ukraine and that the dynamics on the front line are clear.
