The famous American skier Catherine 'Kasha' Rigby is the 54-year-old who died after being caught in an avalanche in Kosovo.
Rigby, known as Kasha, died on Tuesday in the mountain resort of Brezovica in Kosovo.
Her fiance Magnis Wofe Murray wrote in a Facebook post that they would get married in September, while he says he is devastated.
"We were going to get married in September. Now I am a widow and ruined", he wrote.
SkyNews writes that Rigby was a telemarker and great mountain skier, covering the first descents of some of the world's most revered peaks, and had appeared in several films and an American reality TV show. Considered one of the skiers of the world's best telemark skiers, she was skiing off-piste when an avalanche hit her, police said.
She died despite receiving immediate CPR from Murray and later medical aid.
She was in Brezovica, 50 miles south of Kosovo's capital, Pristina, with Tour de Piste, a project made up of expert skiers to hit uncharted ski slopes in popular locations.
Her death was confirmed by the US State Department, without giving her name or further details "out of respect for the family at this difficult time".
Born in Stowe, Vermont, in 1970, she became a telemark skier as a child.
Telemark skiing is a combination of alpine and Nordic skiing where the athlete bends their knees every time they have to turn. The heel is attached to the front of the binding by means of a hanging cable.
She competed in telemark and extreme ski races in the USA, Canada, South America, New Zealand, Russia, Asia, Europe, India and the Middle East.
She has skied the highest peak in Siberia, Kyrgyzstan, China and the Five Holy Mongolian Peaks and is one of only three American women to ski an 8,000m peak in the Himalayas.
Her most recent film appearance came in 2009's Edge Of Never, and six years later she was a contestant on the third season of Ultimate Survival Alaska, where her team finished second.
