"He was crying and calling his mother", how the 29-year-old was

"He was praying and calling his mother"; for three minutes straight, 5 police officers brutally beat 29-year-old African-American, Tyre Nichols, after a stop for a traffic violation.

The American authorities made public the video of the shocking event, where it can be seen that even the detention of the young man was not strictly justified, while he did not resist the law enforcement at all, so the violence used by them is not justified.

Footage shows two officers in the southern US city of Memphis holding the young man to the ground while others kick and punch him.

At least one of them used the rubber stick. In the nearly hour-long footage, compiled from various officers' body-worn cameras, Nichols can be heard calling out to his mother. He died in hospital three days later.

Since the release of the video, protests have started in Memphis, where the demonstrators have blocked a highway, while holding banners that read: "Boll killed us in our city". Similar rallies are taking place in other cities.

The Nichols family has called for the protests to remain peaceful, but they want justice. The police officers involved in the incident, who were all African-American, were charged Thursday with second-degree murder and several other criminal charges. All of them have been dismissed.
