Gunshots were recorded towards a police patrol this evening in the north of Kosovo, more specifically in Banjska - Izvor of the municipality of Zveçan.

The Kosovar authorities report that fortunately there were no injured persons, but only material damage caused to the official car of the Kosovo Police, namely to the window/glass of the official vehicle from its left side.

"Relevant police units have continued with intensive investigations, managing to identify a suspected abandoned car [jeep-opel], on a mountain road at a distance of about 250 meters, which is suspected to be involved in the case. "Also, in the vicinity of the suspect vehicle, the tracks of the suspect persons who fled in an unknown direction were observed," the announcement states.

The law enforcement authorities said that they have confiscated the car and this case has been initiated as attempted murder and assault on an official person.

In the north of Kosovo, inhabited by a majority of Serbs, members of the Kosovo Police have also been the object of various attacks in the past.

The last incident happened on January 23 in Bistrica, Leposavic, when two Serbs refused to stop at a checkpoint and the Police fired at the car, injuring a Serb.
