Eleven people were taken to hospital and around 130 evacuated early this morning after a fire broke out in an apartment building in an upscale London district, the fire service said.

The apartment building in which the fire broke out is located in South Kensington, in the southwestern part of the British capital, near the Natural History Museum of London. When firefighters arrived, half of the ground floor of the five-story building was engulfed in flames, according to London Fire Brigade on Platform X.

"The fire spread from the ground floor to the top floor and the roof of the building. Fire crews are working hard to prevent the flames from spreading to neighboring buildings," said Steve Collins, a fire official. The fire department on the scene.
