Russian President Vladimir Putin has warned NATO that the consequences of deploying allied troops to Ukraine would be "tragic", while calling "nonsense" allegations that Moscow is considering attacking Europe.

" They are starting to talk about the possibility of sending NATO military contingents to Ukraine, but we want to remind you of the fate of those who once sent troops to the territory of our country. But now the consequences for potential intruders will be very most tragic ," Putin said during his address to the nation in the Russian Parliament.

These words refer to the statements of French President Emmanuel Macron, who said on Monday that sending troops to Ukraine should not be ruled out.

"Russia will have to strengthen its western military district now that Sweden and Finland have joined NATO," Vladimir Putin continued.

Finland has a long land border with northwestern Russia.

Putin also said that anyone who tries to invade Russia will face more severe consequences than those during World War II, because the country now has weapons that can hit targets in enemy territory.

Continuing in a threatening tone, he assured NATO countries that they risk a nuclear conflict if they send troops to Ukraine and added that Russia should strengthen its western military region after the admission of Finland and Sweden to the Atlantic alliance./ VoxNews
