A young woman caught fire after an alternative treatment for stomach problems in Thailand.
According to the New York Post, the woman, who works as a model and goes by the stage name Game, had visited a clinic in Bangkok to try Phao Ya, a traditional technique for treating stomach disorders that involves burning herbs on the patient.
This treatment is supposed to help relieve digestive problems, period pains and other stomach disorders.
In the video, Game is first seen lying down with a herbal mixture spread over his stomach. Moments later her experience turns into a nightmare as the fire a staff member lights on the herbs spreads to her clothes and engulfs her in flames.
The footage released is terrifying, as it shows the woman screaming in pain as she falls to the floor, while clinic staff, along with her boyfriend who was in the room for support, frantically try to put out the flames in her body.
Game, who suffered third-degree burns and was bedridden for two months, took legal action seeking compensation from the clinic. The young woman claims that the managers of the clinic refuse to take responsibility for the incident and that she was forced to bear alone, with the help of her insurance, the high cost of the treatments she needed and needed. Game now expresses concern about the impact the severe burns will have on her work: "In a week I have to go back to work, but I have to continue my treatments in the hospital," she says.
A spokesman for Thailand's Ministry of Health said this is the first time a complaint has been made about the traditional Phao Ya treatment and that an investigation has been launched into the incident.
