A 13-year-old killed his mother while she was asleep with his 14-day-old newborn sister.
The crime happened on the evening of October 12 in the US, while now the Miami-Dade District Attorney's Office in Florida has published the chilling photos captured by the security cameras in the bedroom, a few moments before the mother was killed.
In one of the images, recorded at 10:23 p.m. that night, Garcia appears in her bed with her newborn daughter in her arms. Just 40 minutes later, at 11 p.m., the baby monitor camera recorded the room with the lights off. The baby is now in the crib and over the sleeping woman on the bed is the teenager Derek Rosa, who half an hour later called the police to confess his act.
The prosecutors who released the material have not yet provided details on its content. However, the footage published by the New York Post also includes a shocking selfie that the 13-year-old is believed to have sent to a friend after the brutal crime. The teenager poses with his tongue out, making a gesture, while a red substance appears in his hand, possibly his mother's blood.
The evidence also includes photographs of a knife with a pink handle that appears to be covered in blood, and is possibly the crime weapon.
During his phone call on the night of the murder, Rosa confessed to the murder of his mother and the fact that he then sent a photo to a friend of his. The 13-year-old, who excelled at school, reportedly told the operator that he initially intended to kill himself with a gun he had at home, but ultimately decided he didn't want to do that.
On the night of the crime, the 13-year-old's stepfather, who is a truck driver, was away at work. The baby who was lying in the crib while his mother was killed right next to him is safe and sound.
It is worth noting that, despite the terrible crime for which he is accused, the 13-year-old has the support of many family members, including his father, who, speaking in front of the cameras, asked that his son be given "a second chance" . Roza's family expressed their disagreement with the decision to try the teenager as an adult. "Derek is a good kid. Gentle, loving," a relative said in court.
"We ask that he be given a chance to grow up, mature and put behind him what happened," his father said in court.
