"We have no intention of attacking anyone," Putin: Ukraine can join
Russian President Vladimir Putin

Russian President Vladimir Putin has stated from Beijing that Russia has no intention of attacking anyone during a meeting with Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico.

Putin added that claims about Russia's intention to attack Europe were "either a provocation or incompetence."

There have long been fears that Moscow could move on to attack other European countries if it succeeds in its war in Ukraine. This stems from the belief in some circles in the Kremlin that parts of Eastern Europe that were part of the Soviet Union belong to Russia.

Putin also claimed that Moscow had never opposed Ukraine's membership in the EU, but that Ukraine's membership in NATO was "unacceptable."

The Russian leader said this was something he discussed in Alaska with US President Donald Trump.
