A day after announcing the composition of his government, Sébastien Lecornu submitted his resignation to French President Emmanuel Macron, who accepted it, the Elysee Palace announced in a brief statement.

The resignation deepens the political crisis in which France finds itself.

Macron appointed Lecornu to the post last month, but the largely unchanged cabinet composition he unveiled late Sunday was met with harsh criticism across the political spectrum.
