Greece will not change its position regarding Kosovo. This is the guarantee that Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis gave to President Aleksandar Vucic during his visit to Belgrade on Monday.

The Greek leader, whose country is among the 5 countries that do not recognize independence, expressed concern about the recent tensions between Kosovo and Serbia, and emphasized that dialogue mediated by the EU is the only way to resolve the crisis.

Mitsotakis said he supports Serbia and the Western Balkans for EU membership.

"European mediation and dialogue are the only way to normalize relations between the two parties. This will help to ensure stability in the region. We are anxiously watching the events of the last few months. The membership of the Western Balkans in the EU is our strategic goal. It is important for Belgrade to take advantage of these positive circumstances in the European procedure. By speeding up reforms in your country, you will get closer to the EU.”

According to Mitsotakis, the cooperation between Greece and Serbia has expanded in the energy sector and Athens supports infrastructure projects and EU investments in Serbia and the Western Balkans.

Meanwhile, the president of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, said that "this will be the year of great progress in Serbia-Greece relations".

"Serbia and Greece have always mutually supported each other's territorial integrity, and I believe this will continue in the future. The question was asked if Serbia has any other alternative than the EU, and if the latter wants us to be part of the bloc. As for us, I told him unequivocally that despite everything, Serbia is determined to continue and accelerate the European path."

Vucic said that he talked with Mitsotakis about energy, namely about oil pipelines, gas pipelines, the purchase of gas, renewable energy sources, but also how Greek companies can help Serbia build these capacities.
