German Chancellor "opens the door" to the Western Balkans: I

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, at the opening of the Munich Security Conference, stated that they must reopen a new strategy on how to bring countries closer to the European Union.

Merz's statement came after he was asked by Montenegrin President Jakov Milatovic about the role of enlargement in the future of the EU.

"Frankly, I am feeling increasingly dissatisfied with our approach to your countries," Merz added.

He also said that they have promised EU membership to many countries, especially in the Western Balkans.

"I don't want to lose you. You are part of the European continent and therefore potentially part of the EU," he added.

Merz expressed his desire for more chapters to be opened by the countries and to bring the Western Balkan countries closer and closer to the European Union as members.
