"Greenland is not for sale," Danish Prime Minister calls on Trump: Enough with meaningless threats

Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen has made a direct appeal to US President Donald Trump to stop threats regarding taking control of Greenland, stressing that the United States has no right to annex the territory.

"There is absolutely no point in talking about the need for the US to take control of Greenland," Frederiksen declared, adding that "the US has no right to annex any of the three nations of the Danish Kingdom."

The Danish Prime Minister's reaction comes after a provocative post on social media by Katie Miller, the wife of Stephen Miller, one of Trump's advisors, who published a map of Greenland colored in the colors of the American flag, accompanied by the word "coming soon."

Donald Trump has repeatedly raised the idea of ??annexing Greenland by the US, citing its strategic position in the Arctic and vast mineral wealth.

In a statement published on the official Danish government website, Frederiksen said she was addressing Washington "very directly", writes the BBC .

She emphasized that Denmark, and consequently Greenland, are part of NATO and covered by the alliance's security guarantee.

According to her, there is already a defense agreement between Denmark and the US that gives Washington access to Greenland, while Copenhagen has increased investments in the security of the Arctic region.

"I strongly urge the United States to stop threatening a historically close ally and a country and a people who have made it very clear that they are not for sale," Frederiksen said.

The Danish ambassador to the US also reacted to Miller's post, recalling that the two countries are allies and that Denmark expects respect for its territorial integrity.

Greenland, with around 57,000 inhabitants, has enjoyed extensive self-government since 1979, although defense and foreign policy remain the responsibility of Denmark.

While most Greenlanders support future independence from Denmark, polls show strong opposition to any idea of ??becoming part of the United States.
