Israeli forces killed 11 people and wounded more than 80 others after opening fire on protesters in southern Lebanon who had gathered to demand their withdrawal under a ceasefire agreement.
Lebanese officials said two women and a Lebanese soldier were among the dead. The protesters, some carrying Hezbollah flags, tried to enter a number of villages in protest against Israel's failure to withdraw from southern Lebanon at the end of a 60-day truce agreed to in a ceasefire deal that ended the war between Israel and Hezbollah in late November.
Israel has stated that it must stay longer in the territory because the Lebanese army has not been deployed in all areas to ensure that the Hezbollah group is re-established in the territory.
The Lebanese army says it cannot deploy its forces without the Israeli troops withdrawing first.
