US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said the US Government has received reports of several Americans killed in attacks in Israel.

"We are working overtime to verify them," Blinken told CNN.

"At the same time, there are reports of missing Americans. We are working to verify them too", he added.

Palestinian Hamas militants suddenly attacked Israel from the Gaza Strip on October 7 – prompting an immediate response by the Israeli military with airstrikes.

Officials in Israel reported more than 600 people killed, while those in the Gaza Strip said at least 370 people had been killed and more than 2,000 wounded in the ongoing conflict.

US President Joe Biden previously expressed "unwavering support" for Israel.

The US and several other Western countries have declared Hamas a terrorist organization.

Blinken said the US is "likely" to come out with new military aid to Israel later in the day.

"Our first focus is to make sure that Israel has what it needs," he said.

Earlier, US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said that, in the coming days, the Defense Department will work "to ensure that Israel has what it needs to defend itself and to protect civilians from violence and terrorism". /REL
