The President of the Republic of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, has invited parliamentary political parties to a consultative meeting following the failure to form a government. The meeting will start at 10:30, with the aim of setting the date for extraordinary elections.
The official invitation sent to the parties states: "You are invited to a joint consultative meeting to set the date for the extraordinary elections."
This development comes after the failure of the Vetëvendosje Movement's candidate for prime minister, Glauk Konjufca, to secure the necessary majority of votes in yesterday's session of the Kosovo Assembly to form a new government. Glauk Konjufca failed to be elected prime minister of Kosovo after not receiving the necessary 61 votes in the extraordinary session. There were 56 votes in favor, 53 against and four abstentions.
The meeting called by President Osmani is expected to be crucial for determining further steps towards organizing new parliamentary elections.
After the failure to form a government, the country is heading for early parliamentary elections. It now remains up to President Vjosa Osmani to issue a decree dissolving the Parliament and set the date for extraordinary elections.
