US President Donald Trump has stated that there is a real possibility of reaching a peace agreement in the Middle East that goes beyond the current conflict in Gaza.

"We are very close to reaching an agreement that will bring peace to the Middle East," Trump told reporters in the Oval Office, during a meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney.

He confirmed that American negotiators are seriously involved in the talks currently taking place in Egypt.

The White House announced on Monday that Trump's special envoy, Steve Witkoff, and his son-in-law Jared Kushner will play a role in these negotiations.

"There's a real chance we can get something done," Trump added.

"We can have peace in the Middle East. This goes beyond just the situation in Gaza. We demand the immediate release of the hostages."

He announced that the American team is there, another team has just arrived, and that almost every country in the world has expressed support for the plan.

Trump concluded by saying that the US would do everything possible to ensure the implementation of the agreement if Hamas and Israel agree to a ceasefire to end the war.
